Product Performance Testing
With respect to building compliance and energy performance improvement, Stroma are experienced consultants with practical, hands-on capability. One manifestation of this is our Product Performance Testing service, which provides laboratory testing of:-
- Air-permeability of products or product assemblies, such as doors, windows, cladding systems, and materials
- Noise emissions testing of operating mechanical systems including LAeq Levels, and octave band frequency analysis
- Laboratory performance testing of HVAC systems
A project was recently undertaken for Carillion’s Durham BSF Building Services Team for the forthcoming BSF North East projects that will have 100's classrooms, each benefitting from an independent supply/exhaust HVAC system.

Carillion were keen to prove that the noise emissions and flow-rates of the as-built systems were going to perform within design specification, when used in conjunction with some bespoke window louvres. Stroma were commissioned to provide this performance testing and to this end, we constructed a test cell with a complete typical assembled HVAC system within. Flow-rate and noise emission testing systems were then undertaken in controlled conditions, with multiple scenarios tested, with input from Carillion Engineers and their M&E Suppliers and Contractors who were witnessing the testing undertaken.
The systems were found to perform within the required design parameters, and thereby allowed final HVAC product specification and procurement to proceed.
