A new service has been launched by Stroma to provide solutions for asbestos management. The move - made following demand from customers -complements the extensive range of services on offer such as energy testing, air tightness, acoustics and fire protection.Â
The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 stipulates that the duty holder for any non-domestic property must identify, monitor and manage asbestos on their premises. Responsibilities include keeping records on the location of asbestos, assessing the risk of ACM’s (Asbestos-Containing Material) and making information available to necessary parties. The regulations further stipulate the need for an asbestos management plan and annual inspections of ACM’s.
To ease the burden on duty holders, Stroma can provide all the necessary services to aid compliance, including surveying, training and management plans.
Two surveying options are available. Type 2 sampling surveys are followed by a comprehensive report which includes action plans, CAD-generated plans and long term monitoring and management of asbestos found. Type 3 surveys will identify asbestos not detected in type 2 surveys and is required prior to refurbishment or demolition works.
All surveys are conducted in accordance with MDHS 100 and quality standard ISO17020 and, once complete, will lead to a number of actions that will be outlined in an Asbestos Management Plan.
Stroma can both devise and implement a plan to scope out work requirements for compliance managing the process from start to finish.
The regulations also specify that any employee in a trade where contact with asbestos is likely should complete mandatory asbestos awareness training. This also applies to any organisation whose employees risk encountering asbestos. Stoma can provide training solutions specifically tailored to the needs of the individual or business and, to minimise disruption to the working week, can deliver the training at weekends.
