Code for Sustainable Homes
In the current climate, sustainable homes play an important role in the attempt to reduce our carbon footprint. Houses are responsible for a third of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions and the Government is implementing various measures and compliance targets in an attempt to cut carbon emissions by 60% by 2050.
The most cost effective way of ensuring and constructing sustainable buildings or developments is to specify a Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) level at design stage. This greatly reduces the financial implications of applying post-construction measures to achieve sustainability. Many Councils now stipulate that new local authority housing is built to level 3 and planning for private housing will quickly follow.
