Domestic Energy Assessments
Energy assessment is now an essential element in the drive to reduce the carbon impact of buildings. Only by testing the energy efficiency of our buildings can we understand their full impact on the environment and, consequently, determine ways in which to moderate it. Recent legislation made Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) compulsory for all buildings sold, rented or constructed as part of an attempt to reduce the environmental impact of the UK’s housing stock.
The Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) introduces minimum standards for energy and environmental factors affecting the sustainability of a home. Domestic properties are assessed and given a rating on a scale of zero to six stars where zero indicates that it is in accordance with the current building regulations and level 6, that it is carbon free. As of May 1st 2008, CSH ratings are mandatory for all new residential constructions.
