FIRE STOPPING

Working to rigorous standards, Stroma's teams of installers provide fire stopping to all service penetrations and/or voids in fire compartment walls to ensure compliance with both the specified fire strategy and Part B. Our Engineers identify the appropriate market leading materials needed to meet the fire, smoke and acoustic requirements. These include mineral boards with ablative coating, pillows, collars, wraps, intumescent mastics and expansion joints.

Stroma Contracting carry out all forms of fire stopping and passive fire protection including fire enclosure sealing, intumescent painting and the installation of cavity and void barriers.

Fire Stopping
Working to rigorous standards, Stroma's teams of installers provide fire stopping to all service penetrations and voids in fire compartment walls to ensure compliance with both the specified fire strategy and Part B. Our Engineers identify the appropriate market leading materials needed to meet the fire, smoke and acoustic requirements. These include mineral boards with ablative coating, pillows, collars, wraps, intumescent mastics and expansion joints.

All fire seals (or air and acoustic seals) are uniquely tagged, photographed and recorded in triplicate books and issued to site daily. All installers are trained and carry necessary H&S/ CSCS cards and an experienced visiting or resident Contracts Manager is allocated to each project.

Fire Protection to Structural Steelwork
Stroma engineers are trained to carry out detailed measures using construction steelwork drawings and to identify the materials most suitable for achieving the required fire rating and, therefore, ensuring cost effective compliance.

Application of Intumescent Paint to Structural Steel
The DFT (dry film thickness) is calculated using the HP/A (heated perimeter over area) as per BS 476 Part 21. Applied using an airless spray pump, the DFT will vary from 5 to 20mm, depending on the size of the steel. A top-seal can be used for extra protectionFire Stopping.

Fire Enclosure Sealing & Testing
Enclosures protected by gaseous fire suppression systems should be tested for air-tightness upon commissioning of the system to ensure that it will work effectively when activated. Given the critical implications of system failure for a business, insurance companies are insisting upon annual testing to prove compliance.

Stroma provides the necessary Room Integrity Testing in accordance with NFPA 2001 or ISO 14520 methodologies. In the event of excessive air leakage from the enclosure, Stroma is able to carry out the necessary remedial air sealing.

Fire Compound to Vertical or Horizontal Penetrations
The thickness of the fire compound will depend on the fire rating required. It is tested for up to 4 hours integrity and by including reinforcing steelwork within the compound; most products can become load bearing.

Cavity and Void Barriers
The installation of fire barriers to void openings can prevent the lateral spread of fire.  Many types of barrier are used, from mineral fibre, woven glass material to rigid boards.  It can also be an important part of the air-barrier.

Sealing Service Penetrations
Sealing service penetrations through any firewall is important to maintain its integrity.  This is usually carried out by sealing the void internally using coated fire-batts.  For plastic and cast pipes, graphite collars are used to plug the hole. For cable trays requiring service accessibility, intumescent pillows can be used.
