Newly Constructed Dwellings (SAP)
With the acceleration on sustainable building to tackle climate change and the commitment that all newly built homes from 2016 will be zero carbon, we aim to equip you with the complete package in training, software and Accreditation for licensed assessment on Newly Built Dwellings.
EPCs are required for all newly constructed dwellings and are a key part of the European Performance of Buildings Directive, one of the most advanced and comprehensive pieces of legislation targeted at improving energy efficiency within buildings.
You can benefit from a competitive pricing structure, the use of many SAP Calculation Software and comprehensive technical support when you join Stroma Accreditation. All Scheme Members will regularly be provided with informative CPD events, plus monthly technical bulletins to ensure you are kept fully up to date of all legislative obligations and other significant developments.
All assessors must be registered with an approved Accreditation Body such as Stroma Accreditation and competent at delivering the energy assessment. We are responsible for ensuring the quality of the registered Energy Assessors and of the EPCs produced.

Training
There are 2 routes to scheme membership for Building Energy Assessors, both routes demonstrate that all candidates are suitably qualified and competent;
The 2 routes are as follows:
National Occupation Standard (NOS) Qualification
This route facilitates entry to on construction domestic energy assessment sector for new entrants with limited current experience of assessing energy performance of newly constructed dwellings.
Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)
Highly experienced practitioners already working in the (SAP 2005) newly constructed domestic energy assessment are not required to undertake a further qualification as prescribed above. An APEL application is acceptable for these individuals. Experienced practitioners can demonstrate their understanding and knowledge of newly constructed dwelling energy assessment against the APEL framework.

Software
Stroma work in partnership with JPA TL software, this software offers you a straightforward, effective solution which relieves assessors of the burden of calculation.
The SAP module calculates the Target CO2 Emission Rate (TER) and the Dwelling CO2 Emission Rate (DER) and indicates whether the predicted emissions from the dwelling are less than the target. U-Value Professional carries out interstitial condensation risk analysis using the latest method in BS EN ISO 13788, as well as carrying out U value calculations to BS EN ISO 6946 AND ISO 13370.
As the module uses the same layers for both calculations it is easy to analyse heat loss and condensation risk. By altering the environmental settings you can test elements under a variety of climatic conditions to identify potential problems. All U-Value modules produce full print-outs which can be customised with your project and contact details.

Routes to Accreditation
All assessors must be registered with an approved Accreditation Body such as Stroma Accreditation and competent at delivering the energy assessment. We are reasonable for ensuring the quality of the registered Energy Assessors and of the EPCs produced.
The Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) route to qualification has been devised to recognise existing competence within the industry, in particular highly experienced practitioners who can demonstrate they already have all the knowledge and experience equal to the National Occupational Standards (NOS). All APEL applicants are assessed against a set procedure which maps their experience and knowledge against the requirements of NOS, in order to undertake this approach the applicant must complete the appropriate APEL application form and provide the required information as detailed on the form. The key areas are as follows:
- You must show demonstrate an understanding of the methodology appropriate to the provision of EPCs for newly constructed dwellings. Utilising SAP 2005.
- You must meet the Performance Criteria, Knowledge and Understanding requirements prescribed within the National Occupational Standard.
- You should hold an appropriate (professional) qualification relating to the design, construction or energy assessment of building, Stroma will advise you of this qualification requirement
